I applied for options trading on my brokerage account and was only approved for covered calls.

How much equity or liquid net worth is needed to trade level 2 options? I believe this is why i was denied…

It’s not so much the equity as it is the credit score of the applicant(oh yes!) and the years of trading that they have you down as doing and of course whether or not you apply for a margin account(you can only get level 3 and level 4 accounts with a margin account). And of course it also depends on how stingy and overcautious the broker is. I’m pretty new at stocks and the first broker I signed up with was sharebuilder/ing. Now those guys rejected my margin application and as a result only allowed me to trade level 2 options. I have tens of thousands in unsecured credit card lines but sharebuilder denied me a measly 2:1 margin LOC and gave me a piddly $25 overdraft on my checking account lol. I wasn’t happy with sharebuilder obviously especially after I discovered realtime trades were not $4 but rather $9.95 with them so I signed up with sogotrade who offer $3 per equity trade with an additional $0.70 per option contract.

Oh and the 100 free trades for new signups didn’t hurt either lol. Now I may sound biased and I have no idea which broker you have right now but based on my own bitter experience I would suggest you give sogo a try. They approved me for a level 4 Options account weeeeeee!

Other then them I suggest you give optionshouse and optionsxpress a look but I personally have not applied at either of the two so I have no idea how reasonable they are but since "options" is there middle name I would hope for good stuff and if I weren’t so happy with sogo I would be trying one of them next.

As a note, I have not yet tried *writing* any options because I intend to educate myself on risk management and the greeks before I take that plunge but from the looks of it the fees that sogo charges options underwriters are quite reasonable. Oh and I forgot to add you only need $500 deposited at sogo to get red carpet treatment, speaking from personal experience. I added more later though.

Today I update my viewers on how I exited my short positions when the Dow Jones broke the resistance of the chnannel, however going long right now is not the rigth trade. The trade is to trade the channel, and so going short at 880 was the right trade, and buying it at the support of the channel looks good as well. Take a look at how I analyze the charts of SPX, SPY, GS, XLF, TNX, VIX, and the Dow of course.

When I trade stocks or options I like to use money management rules to limit my downside risk. When I purchase a stock or option, I like to limit my losses on a losing trade before they develop into large losses. For example, I will normally sell a stock if it drops 7 to 10% below my entry price. Limiting losses is an essential part of every successful trading program.

The problem in todays volatile markets is that a stock can easily decline 10 to 15% in one day. This type of volatility can make the timing of your stock or option purchase very difficult. The table below lists some of the stocks that I currently own. These stocks are on a buy signal based on my trend following systems and my trend confirmation indicators.

The table lists recent one day declines in these stocks that I own. Following a money management discipline of limiting losses can prove difficult with current market conditions. You could buy a stock and then have to sell the stock the very next day if it suffers one of these types of price declines.

In this video you will discover two trading strategies that provide outstanding profit potential and at the same time provide substantial downside protection. This downside protection can help you maintain your positions during volatile price moves and can result in a high percentage of winning trades.

I want to know if investing money into hedge funds is a way you can trade options without doing all the work yourself and leaving it to a proffessional such as a fund manager to make you the money?

Also, can investing into hedge funds make you wealthy?

Hedge funds don’t just trade options. They use it with stocks and bonds. Generally hedges funds are more risky than stocks and yearly returns can be very high ( and low).
Typically, hedge funds are not open everybody. Only the wealthy are allowed to invest. Net worth over $500 million and investment over $50K.
