Also www.irs.gov. The IRS has very unusual rules for options and futures. You do not need to engage in a closing transaction for you to be taxed on your positions in quite a few cases. It is very important that you understand the tax rules before you engage in a transaction. They do not work like the rules for stocks.

As a very very experienced investor, stay away from options and futures until you really understand them. Futures in particular are more dangerous than options. The laws governing futures permit and expect insider trading. That is the reason that when Hilary Clinton invested $1000 in pork bellies and walked out with $100,000 a year later no one could do anything about it. As a governor’s wife she was not violating the law to have trades placed that were set up to win. If you are not rich, or the spouse of a governor, expect to be taken advantage of.

I want to learn everything that there is to know about "Options Trading" What are some good resources? Are there any really good books you could recommend?

The CBOE has a learning center with free tutorials at

http://www.cboe.com/LearnCenter/default.aspx

The OIC has free podcasts at

http://www.optionseducation.org/seminars/podcasts.jsp

Both of these are reliable sources.

Once you have gone through the freebees from these sites, I still recommend you read one or two good books before you start trading. Any of the books in the bibliography at

http://www.cboe.com/Institutional/Bibliography.aspx

will have good, accurate information but be sure to scan the book at a bookstore, library or amazon.com to make sure it is written in language you can understand.

Two books I recommend you consider are "Options as a Strategic Investment" by Lawrence McMillon and "options Volatility & Pricing" by Sheldon Natenberg.

You might also want to consider the books shown at

http://www.mdwoptions.com/

because the author, Mark Wolfinger, answers questions on the message board at

http://messages.yahoo.com/Business_%26_Finance/Investments/forumview?bn=4686677

using the handle "dagnyt."

I suggest you start with the free educational material at

http://www.cboe.com/LearnCenter/default.aspx

and

http://www.optionseducation.org/

to get the basics down then read at least one good book about options before you start trading.

I believe "Oh Boy!’ gave you two excellent books to consider

options as a Strategic Investment by Lawrence McMillan and

Option Volatility & Pricing by Sheldon Natenberg.

They may or may not be the best books for you to start with, depending on your background.

One other book you might want to consider is

The Rookie’s Guide to Options:
The Beginner’s Handbook of Trading Equity Options
by Mark Wolfinger.

I mention that book because the author participates on the Yahoo message board at

http://messages.yahoo.com/Business_%26_Finance/Investments/forumview?bn=4686677

which means you have the ability to ask him questions directly. He posts under as "dagnyt" on that message board. (Beware of impostors.)

If possible I suggest you try to review different books at a large bookstore, a large library, or at amazon.com to find one you are comfortable reading.
